THE IRON ROAD by David Wragg (COVER REVEAL)

Long-time readers of the Hive will know that Beth and Nils are huge fans of David Wragg, so we’re thrilled to be able to feature him once more as we reach the final instalment of his Tales of the Plains trilogy THE IRON ROAD. Dave was kind enough to send us over the following:

THE END OF THE ROAD
The Iron Road is the final part of the Tales of the Plains trilogy, and brings a story to a close that kicked off in earnest in The Hunters in 2023, but really has its roots in the Black Hawks all the way back in 2019. It’s the story of Ree, a semi-retired ‘diplomat’, and Javani, her ever more dangerous ward, their relationship, and the world they inhabit.
At the start of the third book, two and a half years have passed since the events of The Company of the Wolf, and Ree and Javani have left the mountains behind, returning to the great open vistas of the Serican Plains. Javani is now fifteen (and a half), ever more capable, and ever more sure of her own worth and abilities. Ree has returned to her former profession of waging war on her political foes, and finds herself in increasing disagreement with Javani over just how involved in the campaigning either should be.
With The Iron Road, we see some returning characters from earlier in the series, and maybe even one or two from Articles of Faith. This book brings all their stories to an end, and addresses the themes of the series head on: of identity and self-determination, of the necessity of fighting for peace, and of what a family owes to each other. We’ve got action, politics, arguments, name-calling, heartbreak, and so, so many explosions. I’m enormously proud of it, and I can’t wait for it to reach its audience.
There’s some great teasers in there from Dave! Before we check out the cover though, as always, here’s the official blurb:
The unmissable final instalment in the epic Tales of the Plains trilogy from the master of modern fantasy, David Wragg.
Rebellion’s about the journey, not the destination.
Ree is at war. Determined to free the townships from the Guild’s larcenous rule, she can’t take her eyes off victory. Not now, with the scent of blood in the air. Not for her consort, not even for her kid.
Javani is ready for her own adventures. She’s no longer a child and determined to blaze her own trail, even if that means leaving Ree behind.
With rebellion stirring, the past Ree’s been running from and the future Javani’s striving for will collide. As tensions rise between mother and daughter, Guild and rebels – and with the fate of the Plains on the line – all that’s certain is an explosive finale on the Iron Road.

Here’s what Dave had to say about the cover:
Once again, the art team of Gavin Reece and Emily Langford have left me speechless. The cover is another knockout, with the characters front and centre, and we can see in an instant how far they’ve come. Not least Javani, of course, who was (a diminutive) 12 in the first book, and is now lurking right behind Ree on the cover, ready to cause chaos. Ree herself has been through it all, and you can see it right there in her eyes and stance, while behind her, consort Captain Manatas looks on in what is no doubt a mixture of adoration and concern.
The vibe of the artwork is perfect, from the colours of the sky to the colours of Ree’s trousers (which look like they deserve a book in their own right), the open landscape and on-point outfits. Once again, the level of detail is phenomenal, from trousers upwards, and everywhere you look another little delight jumps out. I can only hope the book matches up to the cover! (j/k, it totally does)
Can confirm, it does and then some. Also, I’m chuffed my favourite made it to the cover too!
